NBC SKIT HAS JESUS ON MURDEROUS RAMPAGE

NBC SKIT HAS JESUS ON MURDEROUS RAMPAGE

'He may be wearing sandals, but He can still kick a--'

NBC’s “Saturday Night Live” spoofed famous Hollywood director Quentin Tarantino over the weekend with a gruesomely violent, fictitious movie trailer about Jesus wreaking bloody revenge upon the Romans who killed him.

“He’s risen from the dead,” the parody’s voiceover intones, “and He’s preaching anything but forgiveness. He may be wearing sandals, but He can still kick a–.”

The parody then re-enacts a number of Tarantino’s scenes, only with “Jesus,” “St. Peter” and other biblical characters shooting, beating and slicing their victims, all while sprays of blood splatter the screen.

“Jesus? O sh–!” shouts one victim about to suffer Jesus’ wrath. “Chill, man, chill!”

To which the “Jesus” character responds, “When you get to heaven, say ‘hi’ to my dad,” before blowing a melon-sized hole in the man’s torso.

Tarantino has a reputation for creating blood-splattered and violent films, including “Pulp Fiction,” the “Kill Bill” series, “Inglorious Basterds” and the most recent “Django Unchained,” each of which was spoofed in the parody movie trailer titled “Djesus Uncrossed.”

Guest host Christoph Waltz, who won an Academy Award for his role in “Inglorious Basterds,” played the part of “Djesus” in the SNL trailer.

The voiceover bills the fake movie as “the ultimate historical revenge fantasy.”

Rolling Stone called the SNL spoof trailer “stunning, in the best way possible … a spot-on send-up of Quentin Tarantino’s films, where Jesus (Waltz) rises from the dead, cuts down armies of Romans with swords and Uzis and leaves behind equal amounts hilarious blood and hilarious one-liners. Every last line in this gory sketch was written with impeccable sophistication.”

WND movie critic Drew Zahn, however, found it something less than “impeccable.”

“I’m reminded of the line from Steve Martin’s ‘Cheaper by the Dozen,’ when he declared his children’s pranks to be ‘wrong – funny, but wrong,’” Zahn said. “Yes, the parody is well made, and yes, Tarantino is ripe for a spoof just like this. Shoot, I can even see the humor in it. But its subject matter can only be described with one word: blasphemous.

“If anything in our PC culture should be considered obviously offensive, this is it,” Zahn continued. “Can you imagine the uproar that would occur if SNL made a parody, ‘Muhammad Unleashed?’ People at NBC would be losing their jobs. The ‘sensitivity police’ would be out in full force. It would cause international outcry.

“I just have to believe that if God gifted these actors and writers with such a gift for humor and wit,” Zahn concluded, “that He intended it for nobler purposes than mocking His Son.”

The parody trailer can be seen below (Editor’s note: Contains extreme violence and language that may be offensive to some viewers):

Christian TV host and best-selling author Ray Comfort said, “I wonder if the funny folks at ‘Saturday Night Live’ know that Muslims believe in Jesus Christ, and that they might not like one of their prophets being mocked in a blasphemous skit.”

Comfort said that according to Islam-guide: “Muslims respect and revere Jesus (peace be upon him). They consider him one of the greatest of God’s messengers to mankind.”  While they don’t believe, as Christians do, that Jesus is God in human form, they do revere Him and believe that He performed miracles: “He was sent by God to us as a Messenger, to deliver to us the Bible and to guide humanity to the right path. God gave Jesus the ability to perform numerous miracles so that his people would believe him and follow his teachings. These miracles include curing the diseased, giving sight to the blind and even raising the dead.”

Comfort went on to warn, “If Muslims threaten a man with death simply because he drew a cartoon of a prophet, the ‘Saturday Night Live’ writers and actors might like to think twice if they plan a second spoof because the first mocking clip was so well-received.”

He added, “Take a moment to try and think of any human being in history, whose name has been so hated it has been so mocked and even adopted as profanity. Think of Gandhi, Hitler, Mother Teresa, Churchill, Mussolini, Muhammad, Buddha, Rasputin, Castro, or Lincoln.  No human being, living or dead, good or evil, has had such a thing happen; no human being except one. Only the Name of Jesus is used internationally to cuss. You will hear it commonly used in movies to express disgust. You will hear it on television, on the radio, in songs, in the newspapers, in books and magazines, on the Internet, and in everyday speech throughout the world.”

Day Three: Outrage Over 72 Hours Of Network Silence On Catholic Lawsuit Spreads To Other Christian Leaders

Day Three: Outrage Over 72 Hours Of Network Silence On Catholic Lawsuit Spreads To Other Christian Leaders

Instead CBS leads broadcast with – Surprise! -- priest scandal

Alexandria, VA – Fury over the ABC, CBS and NBC evening newscasts’ continued refusal to report the lawsuits Catholic entities have filed against the Obama administration has spread beyond the Media Research Center watchdog group and Catholic leaders to 11 additional Christian leaders equally concerned about this decision to deliberately not report national news. Below are statements released by FRC’s Tony Perkins, Gary Bauer of American Values and 9 more leaders.

For the third night in a row the broadcast networks have refused to cover this correctly.

This momentum is fueled by CBS Evening News’ outrageous decision not only to spike the Catholic lawsuits but instead to lead the news with yet another story about the Catholic sex abuse scandal. The broadcast devoted two minutes and 31 seconds to the accused abusers and allegations that occurred decades ago. That’s roughly eight times more coverage than CBS Evening News gave the historic lawsuit on Monday.

“Those fleeting 19 seconds remain the only evening news coverage of the damning anti-Obama lawsuit in 72 hours since the unprecedented suing byone of the largest institutions in the country,” stated Media Research Center President Brent Bozell. “Make no mistake – CBS intentionally resurrected the decade-old scandal last night while ignoring the lawsuit to throw salt on the wound of America’s 60 million Catholics. The media are holding this historic news hostage from the American people. At least CBS has heard of the word 'Catholic.'  ABC and NBC are behaving like the Catholic Church -- and one out of every four Americans -- don’t exist.”

Statements

"This week Catholic leaders filed lawsuits responding to an unprecedented federal government intrusion into the church.  Several major networks have chosen to ignore the stand that these Catholic organizations have taken in defense of our most fundament freedom.  However, thousands of priests, pastors, and rabbis will continue to speak out and refuse to surrender their most fundamental right to live and exercise faith without compromise.  The church will not allow itself to be conscripted to advance anyone's liberal political agenda."

Tony Perkins
President, Family Research Council

"It is a shame (though hardly surprising) that the mainstream media have virtually ignored the lawsuit by the Catholic bishops and other Catholic institutions against the Obama administration’s unconstitutional assault on religious liberty. With its attempt to force Catholic institutions to purchase healthcare plans with contraceptives and abortifacients, the administration has revealed how willing it is to trample constitutional rights. By ignoring this story, the media’s liberal bias has never been clearer."

Gary L. Bauer
Former Presidential Candidate
President American Values
Chairman the Campaign for Working Families

“With the failure to properly address, or even address at all, the most astounding, massive lawsuit ever filed by religious institutions, the mainstream media has removed any doubt regarding their sold-out allegiance to the party of the Democrats. The mainstream media’s intentional and flagrant disregard of the most monumental legal defense in American history by a religious institution, the Catholic Church, against an overreaching, religious-freedom-usurpation by any U.S. administration shows two things. First, it shows a blind allegiance by the mainstream media to the party and causes of the Democrats that far exceeds adherence to anything remotely resembling journalistic integrity. Second, it shows a disdain, disregard and dismissive attitude of decision makers in the mainstream media toward organized Christian religion. It is indeed a sad time in America for those who admired true journalistic integrity.”
Rep. Louie Gohmert (TX-01)

"The media have been irresponsible in ignoring growing problems with President Obama's healthcare law. The violations of First Amendment Rights of Conscience has been an AUL concern throughout this process, and the lack of coverage of this unprecedented intrusion into the life of faith should not be ignored. If any Administration is permitted to force Americans to act against their consciences as a matter of policy, it will change the very fabric of the American way of life. The very real concerns expressed in the Catholic lawsuits should be a major media focus, particularly in this election season."

Dr. Charmaine Yoest
President and CEO of Americans United for Life

"Once again, the mainstream media ignore the news.  Now that the Catholic bishops have stood tall, it's the media that fell down and abased themselves before Obama's throne.  Obama has declared war on truth, conscience, and the religious liberties that have defined America.  If Judeo-Christian values ever had a Valley Forge, the legal action against the HHS mandate is that moment."

Rev. Louis P. Sheldon
Chairman, Traditional Values Coalition
Andrea Lafferty
President, Traditional Values Coalition

"The controversy over the HHS mandate is not just a Catholic issue, but one that affects people of all faiths, including our Christian schools, as it is a direct attack on the religious liberty that is a vital part of the foundation of our country. Despite the media’s deafening silence on the tremendous outcry over this issue, people of faith will not stand idly by while our religious freedoms are stripped away."

Dr. Keith Wiebe
President. American Association of Christian Schools

“The lack of media attention regarding the 12 law suits that over 40 organizations have filed against the Obama Administration’s HHS mandate is disappointing and yet predictable. The Obama Administration’s assault on religious liberty is not new, but the President has become more bold with every attack, likely because the main stream media has erected a shield of silence to protect him from public scrutiny. Undermining the conscience rights of individuals by requiring people of faith to directly pay for abortion-inducing drugs, despite their religious convictions, Obama has ignited a firestorm among millions of Americans who understand the threats Obama’s mandates pose to our freedom.”

Mathew Staver
Founder and Chairman, Liberty Counsel
Dean and Professor, Liberty University School of Law
Director, Liberty Center for Law and Policy

“The simultaneous filing of more than 40 lawsuits by Catholic institutions against Obama's mandate to suppress religious liberty is one of the biggest news stories of the year.   An even bigger news story is that the mainstream media tried to suppress it.”

Phylls Schlafly
Founder and President, Eagle Forum

“The Obama Administration’s unprecedented attack on freedom has been met appropriately with an unprecedented response. The mass challenge to the unconstitutional Obama Care mandate filed by Catholic groups this week was the latest in a long list of challenges from faith groups across the country and across the spectrum. These groups – evangelical, Protestant and Catholic – are all united by one purpose: to stop Washington politicians and bureaucrats from punishing people of faith for living according to their convictions. The mainstream media’s resistance to giving these latest lawsuits the proper level and depth of coverage is disappointing, but unfortunately, not surprising. What’s worse is the media’s pervasive and seemingly purposeful distortion of the issue. These suits are not about Catholics and contraception; they are about securing our fundamental freedom, as the legal complaints make abundantly and emphatically clear. It’s time for the media to live up to its responsibility to provide the American people a full, true, and accurate account of what’s at stake in this battle.”

Gregory Baylor, ADF Senior Counsel

“The freedom of religious expression is so foundational to our country our founders wrote it into the first amendment to our Constitution. It is unfortunate the news media don’t seem to recognize the importance of the Catholic Church’s lawsuit as a principled defense of that freedom for people of all religious convictions. Even if you’re generally in favor of government-funded health care, you should be able to understand – and journalists should see the need to report on -- the grave implications of forcing religious institutions and individuals to violate their rights of conscience by forcing them to pay for abortions with their tax dollars, even indirectly through mandatory insurance policies.”

Rescued dog bites NBC anchor in the face during feel-good segment gone wrong

Rescued dog bites NBC anchor in the face during feel-good segment gone wrong

It was supposed to be one of those feel-good segments on a local television newscast: A rescued dog. A grateful owner. The hero firefighter who pulled the dog from the ice. But that's not how it turned out.
The dog, an Argentine mastiff named Gladiator Maximus, attacked Kyle Dyer, anchorwoman at NBC's KUSA Denver affiliate, during a live, in-studio segment on Wednesday that was meant to celebrate the dog's rescue from an icy lake the day before.
Dyer was shown petting the mastiff during the segment, then kneeling on the floor to get closer, when the 85-pound pooch bit her in the face. Paramedics and animal control were called to the studio. Dyer was rushed to a Denver hospital where she had reconstructive surgery overnight. The 3-year-old dog was taken to a Denver animal shelter where it is being "quarantined."
Video of the attack, as you might imagine, has gone viral, but KUSA has been issuing take-down notices, trying to get the clip off the Internet. (The "Today" show won't even show it.)
Patti Dennis, KUSA vice president of news, said Dyer's surgery was successful, and that Dyer is expected back to work in a few weeks. "The surgeon was pleased with the outcome," Dennis said. "Kyle says she wants everyone to know she is OK and is concerned about the viewers who were watching the incident live on TV."
"Several people interacted with the dog [prior to the segment] and everything seemed fine," Dennis said. "Then at the last moment, the dog had behavior that nobody predicted or understood. Clearly we learned something."
Dyer is known for a weekly segment--"Kyle's Kritters"--that showcases animals from the Denver Zoo.
Michael Robinson, Max's owner, has been cited by Denver Animal Control for a "leash-law"" violation ("because the owner did not have control of the dog at all times"), for allowing a dog to bite and for not having the dog properly vaccinated.
But animal experts say it was Dyer who was really at fault.
"The dog was trying to tell her, 'I am going to bite you,'" Colleen Safford, a prominent New York-based dog trainer, told Yahoo News. "Dogs 'talk' to us with their body with each and every interaction. This dog was repeatedly 'telling' the anchor that she was making him uncomfortable and if she didn't stop, he would bite."
"Basically, she did everything wrong," Ron Berman, a canine behavior specialist, told NBC. "She went up to a dog she didn't know--who didn't know her--and she either tried to kiss him or hug him or put her face too close to his face. He felt threatened and bit her."
Max is expected to be released to Robinson after a 10-day evaluation. Robinson is due in court April 4.
"The dog bite accident that happened today was unfortunate and certainly not expected based on what we knew about the dog and his owner," Dennis said in a separate statement. "Our goal was to unite the owner with the rescuer for a nice segment. We are all thinking of Kyle and her recovery. We love Kyle and what she and her family do for this community. We also love animals and will continue to do all we can to use 9NEWS to improve animal welfare in Colorado."
Dennis said the station is now reviewing its guidelines concerning animals in the studio.  source:

Sikh sues Leno over Golden Temple Romney Joke

Local Sikh sues Jay Leno over Romney joke

A Sikh businessman in Bakersfield has filed a libel lawsuit against comedian Jay Leno after branding a joke from his "The Tonight Show" monologue offensive to the Sikh community.

Randeep Dhillon said it's not the first time Leno has cracked a joke at the Sikh community's expense.

"We cannot accept this," he said in a telephone interview Wednesday. "Nobody should be able to do this, no matter if it's media or politicians or anyone. Our religion should be respected as much as all religions."

A furor began when Leno made fun of GOP presidential candidate Mitt Romney's wealth on Jan. 19. The segment showed a picture of a large, shiny gold building and joked that it was the former Massachusetts governor's "summer home."

The picture actually was of the Golden Temple of Amritsar in India, which according to the lawsuit, is sacred to the Sikh religion. India subsequently used diplomatic channels to officially complain to the United States government, according to numerous media reports. The U.S. State Department responded by saying the joke was clearly satire and protected by the First Amendment, the reports say.

Some Sikh leaders are now calling for a boycott of "The Tonight Show." In Bakersfield, which has a large Sikh community, a downtown AM/PM mini market co-owned by Dhillon erected twin banners on Wednesday that read: "Shame on You Jay Leno & NBC."

Dhillon's lawsuit, filed Tuesday in Los Angeles Superior Court, contends that "the publication and broadcast was libelous on its face and clearly exposes plaintiff, other Sikhs and their religion to hatred, contempt, ridicule and obloquy because it falsely portrays the holiest place in the Sikh religion as a vacation resort owned by a non-Sikh."

The lawsuit goes on to say that as a result, Dhillon suffered "loss to his reputation, shame, mortification and hurt feelings all to his general damage."

The complaint seeks unspecified general, special and punitive damages and legal fees.

Members of the Bakersfield Sikh Temple said Wednesday that the joke was inappropriate.

"It was a very hurtful thing to say," said Parminder Sanghera, who administers the temple's website. "That is our spiritual home. Like Muslims go to Mecca, that's our Mecca. You shouldn't be making fun of a holy site."

Sanghera added that he would be satisfied with an apology from Leno.

As of Wednesday, Leno had not publicly responded to the lawsuit, which was all over the blogsphere and entertainment news websites.

No one returned a telephone call to the office of Leno's agent.

NBC, which also is named in the lawsuit, declined to comment. source:

The U.S. Justice Department is suing the state of California and Gov. Jerry Brown because prison authorities required a Sikh prison inmate to cut his beard.

The U.S. Justice Department is suing the state of California and Gov. Jerry Brown because prison authorities required a Sikh prison inmate to cut his beard.

The lawsuit was filed Tuesday on behalf of Sukhjinder Basra, an inmate at prison in San Luis Obispo in central California.

It said that the requirement violated the man's right "to practice his religion" under the federal Religious Land Use and Institutionalized Persons Act (RLIUPA).

In the Sikh religion, which originated in northwestern India, unshorn hair is an article of faith.

The Justice Department said the suit followed a probe "that revealed that California's inmate grooming policy substantially burdens the rights of an inmate to practice his Sikh faith. "

"The rights guaranteed by the Constitution extend to all people in the United States," said Andre Birotte Jr., U.S. Attorney for the Central District of California. "By protecting those rights -- even for those incarcerated -- we strengthen those rights for all."

The state Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation was also named in the suit.

RLUIPA, which became law in 2000, protects the religious freedom of people "confined to institutions such as prisons, mental health facilities and state-run nursing homes," the Justice Department said.
